1   Taman Negara - A National Park in Malaysia and with its 130 million years old jungle the oldest forest on Earth - and a good trip for a long weekend from Singapore.

On the way from Singapore to Jerantut with the night train

2   The three hours trip to Kuala Tahan up the river is made with these boats
3   Driving to Kuala Tahan. In the middle of the way the engine died and we were carried by the current - in the wrong direction
4   And everywhere Monkeys
5   Kuala Tahan -
the gateway to Taman Negara.

The floating restaurants serve Malaysian meals and fresh fish direct from the river

Starting the difficult eight hours trip through the jungle following the path named "Crazy walk". This was one of the most difficult trek which we ever did: muddy terrain, going up and down, climbing fallen trees and crossing a lot of creeks. The humidity was 100% like breathing water. We had to fight extra with hungry leeches which were keen to drink our blood. Some got to bite us leaving the skin bleeding without stopping. Anyway, it was a very interesting trek alone in the jungle.
7   Taman Negara - Jungle everywhere

Hanging bridge - the first sign of civilization after seven hours walk - so we did not get lost

Michael putting salt on a leech to make it fall off from his leg
10   We slept two nights inside the observation tower at Bunbun Kumbang  and the experience was overwhelming: the sounds of the jungle, the full moon climbing above the canopy, animals in the dark and a Monkey-Footed-Tree-Rat which ate a hole in Michaels brand new rucksack
11   The leaf frog has a very good camouflage - if it would not move we would never see it

  A leaf insect
13   Colorful butterflies in the jungle
14   ... and Termites

The canopy walk: 800m of hanging bridges high in the trees getting people near to the jungle inhabitants which don't go down on the ground
16   Market in the village of Jerantut, the starting and ending point of a trip to Taman Negara
